When Ramsgate harbour was being constructed in the 1700s, the architects chose to use Purbeck rock as the base construction material. The quarrying left a huge open area in the Dorset cliffs, today known as Dancing Ledge. Much of the original stone is still in place over 200 years later, showing just how long-lasting this rock is.
